What's Happening?
Jane’s Walk Stamford is set to return on May 2, 2026, offering a community-led walking experience through Downtown Stamford. This event is organized by the Emerson Hall Foundation, Stamford Downtown Special Services District, and Historic Neighborhood
Preservation. It aims to celebrate the stories, spaces, and shared history of Stamford Downtown. Inspired by urbanist Jane Jacobs, the walk encourages participants to engage with their surroundings and each other through conversation and exploration. The event will be guided by architectural historian Wes Haynes and Stamford Downtown Special Services District President Michael Moore. The tour will begin at Emerson Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Stamford and proceed along Bedford Street, highlighting the evolution of the downtown urban core.
Why It's Important?
Jane’s Walk Stamford provides an opportunity for community members to connect with their local environment and each other, fostering a sense of community and shared history. By exploring the ideas of Jane Jacobs, the event emphasizes the importance of public and semi-public spaces in urban settings. This initiative not only promotes cultural and historical awareness but also supports the economic vitality of Stamford Downtown by attracting visitors and encouraging local engagement. Such events can enhance community cohesion and contribute to the preservation and appreciation of local heritage.
