What's Happening?
Fulcrum EnviroTech, a subsidiary of Fulcrum Metals, has partnered with Test Design Implement Solutions (TDI) to establish a pilot plant in Ontario, Canada, for processing mine waste using cyanide-free technology. The plant, developed with Extrakt Process
Solutions, will initially process material from Fulcrum's Teck-Hughes project and assess other mine waste samples. The facility is designed to handle up to 2.4 tonnes per day and aims to gather data for potential commercial applications. Bechtel Energy Technologies & Solutions is supporting the program, which includes 12 pilot batches over four weeks.
Why It's Important?
This initiative represents a significant step towards sustainable mining practices by utilizing cyanide-free technology for metal recovery. It addresses environmental concerns associated with traditional mining methods and could set a precedent for future projects. The pilot plant's success could lead to commercial applications, offering a scalable and capital-efficient model for mine waste recovery. This development is particularly relevant for the Timmins and Kirkland Lake mining districts, which have numerous legacy waste sites.
What's Next?
Fulcrum EnviroTech will focus on site selection and program management for the pilot plant, with several locations under review. The company plans to use the data collected to evaluate future development options and potentially expand the use of cyanide-free technology across other legacy mine sites. The partnership with TDI, Extrakt, and Bechtel will continue to play a crucial role in advancing this project.
