What's Happening?
Take-Two Interactive has issued a cease-and-desist order to Rage:MP, a major multiplayer modding platform for GTA 5, leading to its shutdown. The developers announced that all community servers will cease operations by August 31, 2026, following the end
of support. This decision comes after Take-Two's acquisition of Cfx.re, making FiveM the only authorized platform for GTA V multiplayer modding. Rage:MP's public server listing will close on June 1, 2026, and the developers are assisting server owners in transitioning to FiveM.
Why It's Important?
The closure of Rage:MP marks a significant shift in the landscape of GTA 5 modding, consolidating control under Take-Two Interactive. This move could streamline the modding community but also raises concerns about monopolistic practices and the impact on creative freedom. For players and developers, the transition to FiveM may offer new opportunities but also challenges in adapting to a single platform. The decision reflects broader industry trends towards centralization and control over user-generated content.
