What's Happening?
The Nebraska volleyball team has relocated its practice sessions to the Kinetic Sports Complex due to ongoing construction at the Devaney Center. The construction, which began in late February, involves renovations to the locker room and seating areas.
Despite the changes, senior setter Bergen Reilly and her teammates have adjusted well, finding the new environment relaxing and conducive to competition. Coach Dani Busboom Kelly has emphasized the importance of adapting to adversity and has integrated more skill instruction during the beach season to maintain continuity. The team is preparing for three spring exhibitions, a departure from previous years when only one match was played. The exhibitions are seen as an opportunity to play against different teams and build team chemistry.
Why It's Important?
The relocation and construction at the Devaney Center highlight the university's commitment to improving facilities for its athletes, which can enhance performance and attract new talent. The temporary move to the Kinetic Sports Complex allows the team to continue training without interruption, ensuring they remain competitive. The spring exhibitions provide valuable experience for players, especially new freshmen, and help maintain the team's high standards. The renovations, including a new locker room and additional seating, will benefit the team in the long term by providing better amenities and accommodating more fans, potentially increasing support and revenue.
What's Next?
The Nebraska volleyball team will continue to practice at the Kinetic Sports Complex until the renovations at the Devaney Center are completed. The team is scheduled to play three spring exhibitions, which will help them prepare for the upcoming season. The construction work is expected to be completed in time for the fall season, providing the team with improved facilities. Additionally, the team will participate in a match against Missouri at Wrigley Field in September, organized by the Big Ten Conference, offering a unique opportunity to play in a historic venue.
