What's Happening?
Columbia College's Fashion Association recently held its second annual 'Project Styling' event, inspired by the popular series 'Project Runway.' The competition, designed to highlight the art of fashion styling, featured five student stylists who presented
their interpretations of the '90s Revival' theme. The event, which took place on May 6, attracted a diverse audience, including students, faculty, and industry professionals. Each contestant was judged on creativity, concept clarity, and execution by a panel of judges, including Brandon Frein, a part-time instructor and professional stylist. The event provided a platform for students to gain hands-on experience and showcase their work to a broader audience, emphasizing the importance of styling in the fashion industry.
Why It's Important?
The 'Project Styling' event is crucial for providing fashion students with practical experience and exposure to industry standards. It highlights the often-overlooked field of fashion styling, offering students a chance to demonstrate their skills and creativity in a competitive setting. By involving industry professionals as judges, the event bridges the gap between academic learning and real-world application, preparing students for future careers. Additionally, the focus on '90s Revival' reflects current fashion trends, allowing students to explore and reinterpret past styles in contemporary contexts. This event not only benefits the participants but also enriches the local fashion community by fostering new talent and ideas.
