Thermal Grizzly, a company known for its high-performance cooling solutions, is experimenting with a new direct-die CPU block that incorporates diamond sheets to significantly improve thermal conductivity. This innovative approach was showcased at Computex
2026, where Sasha Robey, Senior Marketing Manager at Thermal Grizzly, explained the use of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) diamond sheets. These lab-grown diamonds are used for their superior thermal properties, offering thermal conductivity up to 2200 W/mK, compared to the 390 W/mK of copper, a common material in cooling solutions. The experimental block is designed for AM5 processors, specifically targeting models like the Ryzen 9 9950X. However, the high cost of the diamond inserts, approximately €500 each, makes it unlikely that this product will reach the consumer market.

Collaborating with Swiss company Platit, they are testing new coatings that could replace traditional nickel-plating, which is prone to corrosion and delays in production. These new coatings, including carbon-based and nitride-based options, aim to improve durability and reduce production time. The company is also considering offering these coatings as customization options, potentially enhancing the appeal of their products to a broader audience.
