What's Happening?
A modder known as KabutoKunai has successfully upgraded a 2008 Lenovo ThinkPad by integrating a modern RTX 4070 Super GPU. This innovative project involved using an OCuLink cable and an internal M.2 slot to connect the external GPU to the laptop. The
modder also created a custom 3D printed socket to accommodate the setup. This modification allows the ThinkPad to handle more graphically demanding tasks, effectively extending its lifespan and capabilities.
Why It's Important?
This project underscores the potential for extending the life of older technology through creative modifications. By upgrading a 2008 ThinkPad with a contemporary GPU, the modder demonstrates how older devices can be repurposed to meet modern computing demands. This approach not only provides a cost-effective solution for users but also contributes to sustainability by reducing electronic waste. The project may inspire other tech enthusiasts to explore similar upgrades, fostering a community of innovation and resourcefulness.
