What's Happening?
ProtonVPN, in collaboration with British streetwear brand Aries, has introduced a unique blanket embedded with an NFC chip. This innovative product allows users to access a free month of Proton's Unlimited VPN service, which typically costs $10 per month. The blanket, priced at $260, is made in Italy from a blend of 80% wool and 20% polyamide. It features a distinctive design with patterns and symbols, including alien heads and peace symbols. The NFC chip, when tapped with a phone, provides access to VPN content from over 120 countries. This product is being marketed as the world's first VPN blanket, although it is not the only NFC-enabled blanket available.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration between ProtonVPN and Aries highlights the growing trend of integrating
technology into everyday products. By embedding an NFC chip in a blanket, the companies are offering a novel way to access digital services, potentially expanding the market for VPN services. This innovation could appeal to tech-savvy consumers looking for unique and functional products. Additionally, it demonstrates how companies are leveraging partnerships to create cross-industry products that enhance user experience and offer added value. The success of such products could influence other tech companies to explore similar integrations, potentially leading to a broader range of tech-enhanced consumer goods.
