ABB has announced a significant advancement in vessel Dynamic Positioning (DP) technology following successful sea trials on the wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) Norse Wind. The trials verified the capabilities of ABB's new Dynamic Positioning Class 2 (DP2) control system, which integrates the ABB Ability Marine Pilot Control with Azipod propulsion units. This integration offers a unified interface for dynamic positioning, maneuvering, and transit functionalities, enhancing vessel safety and operational decision-making. The system's continuous control capability was demonstrated during the trials, supported by ABB's PEMS power and energy management system. The Norse Wind's sister ship, Norse Energi, is also set to feature this new DP2 solution
upon its service entry in early 2026.
