What's Happening?
The Texas Rangers have placed second baseman Josh Smith on the 10-day injured list due to a right glute strain. In response, the team has recalled infielder Justin Foscue from Triple-A Round Rock. Smith,
who has played 31 games this season, is hitting .217 with six RBIs. Foscue, drafted 14th overall in the 2020 MLB Draft, has appeared in 19 major league games over the past two seasons. He is currently hitting .287 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 30 games at Round Rock.
Why It's Important?
Smith's injury is a setback for the Rangers, as they lose a versatile player who has contributed both offensively and defensively. The recall of Foscue provides an opportunity for the young infielder to prove himself at the major league level. This move highlights the Rangers' need to adapt and manage their roster effectively amid injuries. For Foscue, this is a chance to establish himself as a reliable option for the team, potentially impacting his future role with the Rangers.
