What's Happening?
The Junior Hokie Showcase at Virginia Tech provided fourth-grade students from the New River Valley with an interactive learning experience focused on agriculture, natural resources, and science. The event,
held at the Alphin-Stuart Livestock Teaching Arena, featured various educational stations where students learned about livestock care, modern farming technology, and environmental stewardship. The showcase aimed to connect classroom subjects with real-world applications, inspiring students to explore potential careers in these fields.
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the importance of early exposure to STEM fields and agriculture, encouraging students to consider careers in these vital industries. By demonstrating the practical applications of classroom learning, the showcase helps bridge the gap between education and industry needs. It also supports the mission of 4-H and Virginia Cooperative Extension to promote hands-on learning and community engagement. The initiative may inspire similar programs nationwide, fostering a new generation of students interested in science and agriculture.
