What's Happening?
Variety, in partnership with Lifetime, is set to host its inaugural Power of Women event in London on June 3. The event will honor notable figures including Emilia Clarke, Emma Corrin, Cynthia Erivo, Hannah Waddingham, and Suki Waterhouse. Each honoree
will be featured on separate covers of the accompanying Variety issue and will highlight a charity of their choice, with Variety making donations to these organizations. This event follows similar successful events in Los Angeles, New York, and Nashville. The honorees are recognized for their contributions to entertainment and their charitable efforts, with each bringing attention to causes such as brain injury recovery, child welfare in conflict zones, and LGBTQ+ support.
Why It's Important?
The Power of Women event underscores the significant impact of women in the entertainment industry and their role in advocating for social causes. By highlighting these influential figures, Variety not only celebrates their achievements but also raises awareness for the charities they support. This event serves as a platform to inspire others in the industry to engage in philanthropic efforts. The inclusion of diverse honorees, such as the first non-binary honoree Emma Corrin, reflects a broader commitment to inclusivity and representation in media.
