What's Happening?
Greenland Resources has entered into an eight-year offtake agreement with SSAB, a Nordic and US-based steel producer. This agreement ensures SSAB a stable supply of high-quality, low-carbon-emission ferromolybdenum, which will be extracted in Greenland and refined
in Belgium. The deal includes a price floor and ceiling, providing financial stability for both parties. SSAB, known for its high-strength steels used in various industries, will benefit from a long-term, responsibly sourced molybdenum supply with low Scope 1 and 2 emissions. This agreement aligns with SSAB's sustainability goals and supports its production capacity of 8.8 million tonnes of steel annually.
Why It's Important?
This agreement is significant for both Greenland Resources and SSAB as it secures a critical raw material for steel production, which is essential for industries like defense, automotive, and infrastructure. The focus on low-carbon emissions and sustainability reflects a growing trend in the industry towards environmentally responsible sourcing. For Greenland Resources, this deal represents a stable revenue stream and strengthens its position in the global molybdenum market. For SSAB, it ensures a reliable supply chain, crucial for maintaining its production capabilities and meeting sustainability targets. This partnership highlights the increasing importance of sustainable practices in the mining and steel industries.
