What's Happening?
A report by Zurich Insurance Group highlights significant insurance gaps for business travelers, with medical emergencies and mixed work-leisure trips becoming more common. The survey of 4,000 international business travelers revealed that 80% faced disruptions,
with medical incidents being the most costly. Emergency evacuations can exceed $150,000, yet many domestic health plans and basic business travel policies do not fully cover these risks. The overlap of business and personal travel further complicates insurance coverage, with 81% of travelers planning to combine the two in 2026.
Why It's Important?
The findings underscore the need for comprehensive travel insurance policies that address the evolving risks faced by business travelers. As companies increasingly blend business and leisure travel, insurers must adapt to cover medical, cyber, and geopolitical risks. This presents an opportunity for insurers to innovate and offer tailored solutions, potentially reshaping the travel insurance market.
