Changan Automobile, a leading Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is set to trial solid-state EV batteries in its vehicles by the third quarter of 2026. These batteries boast an energy density of 400 Wh/kg, offering a per-charge mileage of approximately
900 miles. This development is part of a broader trend in the EV industry, where Chinese companies like BYD are advancing next-generation technologies, while some Western automakers, such as Ford and Porsche, are scaling back their EV efforts. In addition to solid-state batteries, Changan is also developing sodium-based Naxtra batteries, which can operate in sub-zero temperatures and provide a range of over 248 miles. The company aims to deploy these advanced battery technologies in both electric cars and robots.
