What's Happening?
C&C Marine & Repair has successfully delivered a new double-hull tank barge, named CTOW 330, to Colonial Towing. This barge is designed for bunker service and is built to meet modern fuel-handling requirements across various service routes including lakes,
bays, and sounds. The CTOW 330 measures approximately 297 feet in length and has a cargo capacity of about 28,000 U.S. barrels. It features a flush deck and a Type III double-skin hull with raked ends, ensuring operational durability and compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations. The barge is equipped with eight cargo compartments arranged into two segregations, each with dedicated pipelines and pumping capabilities. It also includes a U.S. Coast Guard-approved Vapor Recovery System and a 600-horsepower bow thruster for enhanced maneuverability.
Why It's Important?
The delivery of CTOW 330 represents a significant advancement in maritime fuel transportation, particularly in terms of safety and efficiency. The barge's design allows for the transportation of various fuel types, including biodiesel and methanol, which are increasingly important in the context of environmental regulations and the shift towards cleaner energy sources. The inclusion of advanced safety features such as the Vapor Recovery System and emergency suction risers highlights the industry's commitment to minimizing environmental impact and enhancing operational safety. This development is crucial for the maritime industry as it adapts to stricter environmental standards and the growing demand for sustainable fuel solutions.
