HBO Max has entered into a first-look deal with Domingo Corral, a prominent Spanish TV executive known for his work on the Oscar-nominated drama 'Sirât'. Announced by Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content at HBO Max, during the Series Mania festival
in Lille, France, the agreement grants HBO Max exclusive television services in Spain. Corral, who has previously led content at Movistar Plus+ and Telefónica’s TV division, is recognized for producing critically acclaimed Spanish series such as 'Riot Police' and 'The Messiah'. His departure from Movistar Plus+ last year prompted an open letter from 144 members of the Spanish creative community, including notable figures like Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, highlighting his impact on the industry. Under this new deal, Corral will develop a series set in the 1980s, focusing on the case of Santiago Corella, a petty criminal whose wrongful arrest and subsequent disappearance became a significant event in Spain's transition from Fascism to democracy.
