What's Happening?
At the annual Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California, Systm Foods and Chomps introduced new protein-focused products. Systm Foods launched a line of clear protein beverages under its Rebbl brand, featuring 20 grams of protein from whey and electrolytes,
with zero sugar. These beverages are set to be available in mixed berry, lemon lime, strawberry watermelon, and mandarin orange flavors by the fourth quarter of 2026. Elizabeth Stephenson, CEO of Systm Foods, emphasized the innovation in creating a light, refreshing protein drink. Meanwhile, Chomps debuted its first chicken-based meat snack, offering 12 grams of protein per serving, with flavors like original chicken and Nashville hot. Rashid Ali, CEO and co-founder of Chomps, highlighted the opportunity to expand the meat snack category with chicken, a widely consumed protein.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of these new products reflects a growing trend in the food industry towards functional and protein-rich foods. Systm Foods' clear protein beverages cater to consumers seeking convenient, health-oriented options without added sugars, aligning with increasing health consciousness. Chomps' entry into chicken-based snacks addresses a gap in the market, potentially reshaping consumer expectations in the meat snack category. These innovations could influence market dynamics by encouraging other companies to explore similar product developments, thereby expanding consumer choices and driving competition in the protein and functional foods sector.
What's Next?
As these products prepare for market launch, consumer reception will be crucial in determining their success. Systm Foods and Chomps may engage in marketing campaigns to highlight the health benefits and unique attributes of their offerings. The broader food industry might observe these launches to gauge consumer interest and potentially inspire further innovation in protein and functional foods. Retailers and distributors will likely assess the demand for these products to decide on stocking and promotional strategies.
