What's Happening?
Devsisters, the developer behind the popular CookieRun franchise, has announced a new direction for the series with the launch of CookieRun: OvenSmash. This game marks a significant shift from the franchise's traditional side-scrolling runners and RPG
spin-offs to a real-time player versus player (PvP) action experience. Set in the urban fantasy hub of Platter City, OvenSmash introduces new factions, arenas, and characters, while retaining familiar faces like GingerBrave. The game is designed around short, high-intensity matches lasting up to three minutes, emphasizing mechanical skill and decision-making over long-term grinding. Players can choose from eight roles, such as Mage, Tank, Marksman, and Assassin, each offering distinct playstyles that encourage team coordination and strategic positioning. The game also features multiple modes, including Castle Crasher, Wild Royale, and Gnome Battle, catering to both competitive and casual players.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of CookieRun: OvenSmash represents a strategic pivot for Devsisters, potentially expanding their audience by tapping into the growing popularity of real-time PvP games. This move could attract players who prefer competitive, skill-based gameplay over traditional RPG elements. By focusing on quick matches and strategic depth, the game aims to engage both existing fans of the franchise and new players looking for a fresh gaming experience. The pre-registration incentives, including in-game rewards and community milestones, are designed to build anticipation and drive early engagement. This approach not only enhances player retention but also strengthens the game's community, which is crucial for the success of multiplayer online games.
What's Next?
With pre-registration now open on iOS and Android, players who sign up early can earn in-game rewards such as Coins, Crystals, and exclusive cosmetics. Community milestones will unlock additional bonuses, with larger rewards tied to total sign-up numbers, including the Summer Spirit Set skin at one million registrations. The game's launch campaign also offers limited physical prizes, such as themed accessories and collectibles, to selected participants. As the game approaches its official release, Devsisters will likely focus on marketing efforts to maximize visibility and player acquisition. The success of CookieRun: OvenSmash could influence future developments within the franchise, potentially leading to more real-time PvP offerings.
