Amazon has launched a new generative-AI feature in its Amazon Shopping app, designed to create product images from vague textual descriptions. This feature aims to assist shoppers who may not remember the exact name of a product they are searching for.
The capability is currently available to U.S. customers using iOS and Android devices. According to Amazon's blog, the shopping assistant has been upgraded with over 50 technical enhancements, utilizing a combination of models through Amazon Bedrock, including Claude Sonnet, Amazon Nova, and a custom model trained on Amazon product data. Additionally, Amazon is consolidating its shopping assistants by replacing Rufus with Alexa for Shopping. Rajiv Mehta, Amazon's vice president of conversational shopping, describes Alexa for Shopping as a personal shopper that knows and remembers user preferences.
