What's Happening?
Baker McKenzie has emerged as the leading law firm in consumer mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for the first quarter of 2026, according to data from GlobalData. The firm advised on nine consumer deals, including a significant transaction involving the Italian
plant-based dairy alternatives group, The Bridge, which sold a majority stake to asset manager Ambienta. This achievement places Baker McKenzie at the top of the league tables for the number of consumer deals handled. In terms of deal value, Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson led the rankings due to their involvement in a $44.8 billion merger between McCormick & Co. and Unilever's food business. Other firms like Ropes & Gray and Kirkland & Ellis also performed well, each handling seven transactions.
Why It's Important?
The prominence of Baker McKenzie in the consumer M&A sector highlights the firm's strategic positioning and expertise in handling complex transactions. This leadership not only enhances the firm's reputation but also attracts more high-profile clients seeking legal guidance in significant deals. The involvement of major law firms in high-value transactions, such as the McCormick and Unilever merger, underscores the competitive nature of the legal advisory market and the importance of strategic partnerships in driving business growth. These developments can influence the dynamics of the consumer goods industry, potentially leading to increased consolidation and innovation.
