What's Happening?
The Center for Industry Self-Regulation, a nonprofit foundation under BBB National Programs, has launched the Institute for Responsible Influence. This initiative aims to establish a U.S. creator certification program designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and trust in creator marketing. The program will provide creators with training and resources to comply with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Endorsement Guide requirements, promoting responsible content creation and fostering reliable brand partnerships. The initiative is supported by major U.S. advertising industry associations, including the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the Association of National Advertisers, and the American Advertising Federation. The certification program will help
creators signal their commitment to high standards of honesty and transparency, addressing the trust gap in the rapidly growing creator economy.
Why It's Important?
The launch of the Institute for Responsible Influence is significant as it addresses the growing need for transparency and accountability in the creator economy, which has become a central component of brand strategy. With 83% of U.S. marketers using paid creators, the domestic market is valued at $24 billion. However, trust issues persist, as only 5% of consumers fully trust creator content. By providing certification and education, the initiative aims to close this trust gap, benefiting consumers, creators, and brands.
