What's Happening?
Lior Avidar, CEO of ALT, a platform for high-value collectibles, has acquired the most expensive Kobe Bryant card ever sold for $3.15 million. The card, part of the Metal Universe series and the 'Precious Metal Gems Green' edition, was printed in 1997.
Its rarity is underscored by the fact that only 10 were produced, with just three graded by Professional Sports Authenticator. Avidar expressed his long-standing ambition to own the card, which is considered the best of its kind due to its distinctive shine and historical significance in the debut year of PMG basketball cards.
Why It's Important?
This purchase highlights the growing market for sports memorabilia, particularly rare and high-value items. The transaction sets a new benchmark for Kobe Bryant cards, reflecting the enduring legacy and popularity of the basketball legend. It also underscores the role of collectibles platforms like ALT in facilitating high-value transactions and connecting collectors with rare items. The sale may influence the valuation of similar sports memorabilia, impacting collectors and investors in the industry.
