What's Happening?
The Ontario County Historical Society has launched a new exhibit titled 'America 250: Changemakers of Ontario County,' showcasing the contributions of local historical figures. The exhibit highlights individuals such as Henry W. Johnson, the first Black
attorney in Canandaigua, and Eunice Foote, a 19th-century scientist and women's rights campaigner. The exhibit aims to educate visitors about the significant impact these individuals had on their communities and beyond. It is part of the museum's ongoing efforts to celebrate local history and will run through December.
Why It's Important?
This exhibit is significant as it brings to light the often-overlooked contributions of local figures in shaping the history and culture of Ontario County. By highlighting these changemakers, the exhibit provides a deeper understanding of the region's heritage and the diverse individuals who have influenced its development. It also serves as an educational resource for the community, fostering a sense of pride and connection to local history. The exhibit's focus on inclusivity and diversity reflects broader societal efforts to recognize and celebrate the contributions of marginalized groups.
