Connor Bae, a senior at M-A, is concluding his high school tennis career after four years on the team. Initially involved in baseball, basketball, and soccer, Bae discovered his passion for tennis in sixth grade through a family friend. His interest in the sport
intensified during the COVID-19 lockdown, as he spent much of his time playing tennis. Bae progressed from playing singles on the junior varsity team to varsity doubles, where he remained throughout high school. He also participated in solo tournaments and UTR flex leagues. Bae values the team environment and cherishes moments spent with teammates, such as post-tournament outings. His notable achievements include earning PAL Second-Team All-League Doubles honors with his partner, Rafael Pierres.
Why It's Important?
Bae's journey highlights the impact of extracurricular activities on personal development and social connections during high school. His story underscores the importance of sports in fostering teamwork, discipline, and resilience. The COVID-19 pandemic, which limited many activities, provided Bae with an opportunity to deepen his commitment to tennis, illustrating how individuals adapted to maintain engagement in their interests. Bae's experience also reflects broader trends in youth sports, where personal growth and team camaraderie are as significant as competitive success. His achievements contribute to the school's athletic reputation and inspire younger students to pursue their passions.
What's Next?
As Bae prepares to graduate, he may continue to engage with tennis recreationally or competitively at the collegiate level. His experience and skills could lead to opportunities in coaching or sports management.
