What's Happening?
Prima Uno, a female-led consultancy firm based in Cumbria, has been selected as a preferred partner for Sellafield Ltd's Project Controls Preferred Partner List. This selection allows Prima Uno to provide project controls, risk management, and project management support
within Sellafield's Programme and Project Partners (PPP) framework. The framework, initiated in 2019, is a 20-year program valued at £7 billion, aimed at transforming project delivery on the Sellafield site, which is crucial for the UK's nuclear infrastructure. Seven members of Prima Uno's staff will be involved in this significant undertaking. The firm's Managing Director, Sarah Purdham, expressed excitement about the appointment, highlighting it as a natural progression after years of supporting major decommissioning contracts.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of Prima Uno in the Sellafield framework is a significant development for the UK's nuclear sector, as it underscores the role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in major national projects. This appointment not only enhances Prima Uno's reputation but also emphasizes the importance of diversity and inclusion in the industry, given the firm's female leadership. The framework's success is vital for the UK's energy security and environmental safety, as it involves managing some of the most critical nuclear infrastructure projects. The partnership also promises to create new career opportunities in West Cumbria, contributing to local economic growth and skill development.
What's Next?
Prima Uno's involvement in the Sellafield framework is expected to lead to further opportunities for the firm and its employees. The company has recently opened a new headquarters and launched a Community Interest Company, Project: Anything's Possible, to provide career pathways in the nuclear sector. As the framework progresses, Prima Uno will likely play a more prominent role in shaping the future of the UK's nuclear infrastructure. The firm's success could inspire other SMEs to pursue similar opportunities, potentially leading to a more diverse and competitive industry landscape.
