Electra Battery Materials Corporation has secured a $20 million investment from the Canadian government to support the construction of North America's only battery-grade cobalt sulphate refinery in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario. This funding, part of the Strategic
Resource Fund, includes both repayable and non-repayable contributions. The refinery is expected to have an initial production capacity of 5,120 tons of cobalt in 2027, increasing to 6,500 tons annually. The project aligns with Canadian and US policy objectives to localize critical mineral processing and strengthen energy transition infrastructure.

This investment is a strategic move to bolster North America's battery materials supply chain, reducing reliance on foreign refining capacity. What's Next?
Electra plans to bring the refinery into production by the second quarter of 2027. The company is also exploring growth opportunities in battery recycling and nickel sulphate production. The refinery's output will primarily be sold to LG Energy Solution under an existing offtake agreement. As the project progresses, it is expected to attract further investment and partnerships, enhancing North America's position in the global battery materials market.
