What's Happening?
Jordan Small, the owner of Small's Smash Club, has opened a second location in Laguna Beach, California. The new restaurant is situated at 2794 Coast Highway, in a building that previously housed the local eatery Dizz's As Is. Small's Smash Club, known
for its smash burgers, began as a pop-up business during the coronavirus pandemic. The success of the pop-up led to the opening of the first brick-and-mortar location in San Clemente last July. The Laguna Beach location opened on June 6, and features a simple menu with options for single, double, or triple burgers, as well as sides like cheese fries and onion rings. The opening day saw a large turnout, with lines out the door and around the corner.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of Small's Smash Club into Laguna Beach signifies growth in the local food industry, particularly in the niche market of smash burgers. This move reflects the increasing popularity of casual dining experiences that offer high-quality, yet simple food options. The new location also contributes to the economic activity in Laguna Beach, attracting both locals and tourists. The inclusion of a liquor license and the restaurant's proximity to popular beaches and trolley stops may enhance its appeal, potentially boosting foot traffic and local tourism. This expansion could serve as a model for other small businesses looking to grow in competitive markets.
What's Next?
Jordan Small has expressed ambitions to open five restaurants in five years, indicating potential further expansion of Small's Smash Club. The success of the Laguna Beach location could accelerate these plans, especially if the restaurant continues to attract large crowds. Future developments may include exploring additional locations in Southern California or beyond, leveraging the brand's growing popularity. The restaurant's ability to maintain quality and customer satisfaction will be crucial as it scales up operations.
