What's Happening?
Rutgers University is set to hire Joe Woodley, the current head coach of Drake University, as an assistant coach on their defensive staff. Woodley, who has a successful track record, including an NAIA championship at Grand View, will join Rutgers to bolster their defensive coaching team. His exact role at Rutgers is yet to be determined. Woodley led Drake to an 8-4 record and an FCS playoff bid in 2025, and he has previously worked with Rutgers' new defensive coordinator, Travis Johansen, at Grand View.
Why It's Important?
The hiring of Joe Woodley is a strategic move for Rutgers as they aim to strengthen their football program's defensive capabilities. Woodley's proven success as a head coach and his experience in both offensive and defensive roles make him a valuable
addition to the coaching staff. This move reflects Rutgers' commitment to enhancing their football program and achieving better results in the NCAA. For Woodley, this position offers an opportunity to transition to a higher-profile program and further his coaching career.
