What's Happening?
The Homegrown Stories Project, initiated by Harrison ninth graders Brynlee King and Ty Willmott, aims to educate the next generation about local agriculture in Boone County. The project was born out of a lack of available information on local farmers,
prompting the students to create children's books that highlight the stories of these farmers. The initiative seeks to bridge the knowledge gap and foster a deeper understanding of where food comes from among young people.
Why It's Important?
This project is significant as it addresses the growing disconnect between consumers and the origins of their food. By educating children about local agriculture, the Homegrown Stories Project promotes awareness and appreciation for the farming community. It also encourages a new generation to value sustainable practices and consider careers in agriculture. This initiative could inspire similar educational efforts across the country, contributing to a more informed and engaged society regarding food production and sustainability.
