What's Happening?
RAD Propulsion has launched the Autonomy Core, a modular interface designed to facilitate remote control of marine vessels. Unveiled at the Combined Naval Event, the system provides Degree 3 autonomy, allowing for remote operation without onboard crew.
It features multiple interfaces, including RAD Bus and Ethernet ports, and a DroneCAN interface for GPS integration. The Autonomy Core includes an embedded Autonomy Gateway for compatibility with third-party systems, enabling advanced situational awareness and decision-making capabilities. The system is propulsion agnostic, supporting a wide range of configurations.
Why It's Important?
The Autonomy Core simplifies the integration of remote control capabilities, making it easier for operators to adopt autonomous technologies. This could lead to significant advancements in marine operations, including increased efficiency, reduced crew requirements, and enhanced safety. By providing a flexible and reliable solution, RAD's system could accelerate the transition to autonomous vessels, offering a competitive edge to operators in the maritime industry. The system's design ensures that operators can maintain control even if external autonomy systems fail, enhancing operational reliability.
