What's Happening?
The Connecticut Lodging Association (CLA) has announced the appointment of Suzanne J. Cahill as its new Executive Director. Cahill brings a wealth of experience in association leadership, nonprofit management, strategic communications, fundraising, and legislative advocacy. Her previous roles include founding and leading Red Mat Publishing / Red Mat Media, directing the rehabilitation and operation of the historic Wall Street Theater, and serving as Executive Director of the Bedford Audubon Society. In these roles, she has demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, full P&L oversight, governance, capital fundraising, and coalition-based advocacy. Cahill will work closely with outgoing Executive Director Ginny Kozlowski to ensure a smooth
transition and continuity in CLA's advocacy and member engagement efforts.
Why It's Important?
Cahill's appointment is significant for the Connecticut Lodging Association as it seeks to strengthen its advocacy and member engagement efforts. Her extensive background in strategic planning and legislative advocacy is expected to enhance the association's influence in the 2025-2026 legislative session. Key issues on the agenda include short-term rental registration and accountability, workforce development, regulatory modernization, tourism funding, and tax and fee policies impacting lodging operators. By partnering with the American Hotel & Lodging Association and its advocacy team at Sullivan & LeShane, CLA aims to provide a unified voice for Connecticut's lodging industry, which is crucial for addressing the challenges and opportunities facing the sector.
What's Next?
As Cahill assumes her new role, she will focus on advancing the association's legislative priorities and strengthening its advocacy efforts. The transition period with outgoing Executive Director Ginny Kozlowski will be critical in maintaining continuity and ensuring that the association's strategic goals are met. Stakeholders in the lodging industry will be watching closely to see how Cahill's leadership impacts the association's effectiveness in influencing policy and supporting its members. The upcoming legislative session will be a key test of the association's ability to navigate complex regulatory and economic challenges.
