What's Happening?
Africa Fixers, a new pan-African production support company, has been launched in Lagos with the aim of simplifying film and media production across the continent. Founded by Nigerian journalist and producer Obaji Akpet, the company seeks to eliminate
logistical challenges and provide operational support to filmmakers and media organizations. Africa Fixers has assembled a network of over 100 vetted professional fixers in 40 African countries to assist with location scouting, permit facilitation, logistics coordination, and more. The initiative is designed to unlock Africa's storytelling potential by offering reliable local access and structured support for productions.
Why It's Important?
The launch of Africa Fixers is significant as it addresses the logistical and operational challenges that have historically hindered film and media production in Africa. By providing a structured support system, the company aims to empower local production fixers and foster collaboration among professionals across the continent. This initiative not only enhances the efficiency and competitiveness of African productions but also strengthens the continent's presence in the global media industry. The support from Africa Fixers could lead to increased international interest and investment in African storytelling, benefiting local economies and cultural representation.
