What's Happening?
Kraken Robotics Inc. has announced securing approximately $28 million in new contracts for its SeaPower batteries and Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) technology. These contracts involve five international clients, including a new commercial uncrewed underwater
vehicle (UUV) manufacturer and several international defense companies. Kraken's technology, which includes pressure-tolerant batteries and high-resolution sonar systems, is being integrated into over 30 different UUV platforms worldwide. The company, headquartered in Canada, supports clients across more than 30 countries. Additionally, Kraken is in the process of acquiring Covelya Group Limited, a transaction expected to close in the second quarter of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
Why It's Important?
The significant contracts secured by Kraken Robotics highlight the growing demand for advanced subsea technologies in both defense and commercial sectors. The integration of Kraken's systems into a wide range of UUV platforms underscores the company's role in enhancing underwater exploration and security capabilities. This development is particularly relevant for maritime security and environmental monitoring, where high-resolution imaging and reliable power sources are critical. The acquisition of Covelya Group Limited is poised to expand Kraken's technological capabilities and market reach, potentially leading to further innovations and collaborations in the subsea technology industry.
