What's Happening?
Funfields Theme Park, located in Whittlesea, Victoria, is celebrating its 40th summer of operation with significant upgrades and new attractions. Originally opened in 1985 as the Alpine Toboggan Park, Funfields has
grown into a major theme park, employing over 300 locals each season. This year marks the first full summer for two major additions: the Lava Lagoon Lazy River and Cyber Drift Bumper Cars. These attractions are part of a $10 million upgrade, which included moving over 5,000 tonnes of earth and using 130 tonnes of steel. The park has also added 11 VIP cabanas and special features like wave generators and rockwork to enhance the visitor experience.
Why It's Important?
The expansion and upgrades at Funfields Theme Park are significant for the local economy and tourism industry. By investing $10 million into new attractions, the park not only enhances its appeal to visitors but also supports local employment and business. The improvements are expected to attract more visitors, boosting local tourism and providing economic benefits to the surrounding community. Additionally, the park's commitment to creating a tropical getaway experience without the need for travel aligns with current trends in domestic tourism, where people seek local leisure options.
What's Next?
With the Bureau of Meteorology predicting a hot summer, Funfields is preparing for a busy season. The park's new attractions are expected to draw large crowds, and management is likely to focus on maintaining high service standards to accommodate increased visitor numbers. The success of this season could influence future investments and expansions, potentially leading to further developments in the park's offerings.
