What's Happening?
Unicorn Mineral Resources has successfully increased copper recovery at the Klein Aub Copper Mine in Namibia through glycine leaching tests on tailings samples. Conducted by Draslovka, these tests utilized proprietary glycine extraction technology, which
improved copper recovery by adding an oxidation element, extending test duration, and increasing temperature. The Klein Aub Project, a historical copper-silver mine, is located within the Kalahari Copper Belt. Unicorn Mineral is optimistic about the project's economic viability and is working towards completing the acquisition of a 75% interest in Klein Aub by April 2026.
Why It's Important?
The improved copper recovery at Klein Aub represents a significant step forward for Unicorn Mineral Resources, potentially enhancing the project's economic prospects. This development is crucial as it could lead to increased copper production, contributing to the global supply of this essential metal used in various industries, including electronics and construction. The success of these tests also highlights the potential of glycine leaching technology as a more sustainable and efficient method for mineral extraction, which could influence future mining practices.
What's Next?
Unicorn Mineral Resources plans to continue optimizing the glycine leaching process to further increase copper recovery rates. The company is also exploring the potential to extract silver from the tailings, which could add additional value to the project. As the acquisition of the Klein Aub interest progresses, Unicorn Mineral will likely focus on scaling up operations and potentially expanding exploration activities within the Kalahari Copper Belt.
