The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has ratified a new four-year contract with major studios, which includes significant cutbacks in the writers' health plan. The contract was approved by 90.38% of the guild's
members, with the term running from May 2, 2026, to May 1, 2030. The agreement introduces individual premiums for writers, higher deductibles, and reduced 'extended coverage points' for maintaining health insurance during periods of unemployment. Despite these concessions, the studios have committed $321 million to stabilize the health fund over the next four years. The contract also maintains the status quo on issues like artificial intelligence, with studios agreeing to further discussions but not committing to compensating writers for AI training using their scripts.
