Hachette Book Group has announced the appointment of Brian J. Distelberg as the new president and publisher of the Basic Books Group, succeeding Lara Heimert. Heimert, who has been with Basic Books for 21 years, will retire on June 5. During her tenure,
she expanded the publisher's reach by adding Seal Press and creating Basic Books UK. Distelberg, who joined Basic Books in 2015 from Harvard University Press, has been instrumental in publishing bestsellers and Pulitzer Prize winners. He expressed enthusiasm for continuing Basic's mission of publishing enduring books based on deep research and authentic expertise.
