What's Happening?
Old Poway Park has introduced a new garden that serves as an educational tool to teach about self-sufficiency during wartime. The garden, managed by the Heritage Gardening Group, is inspired by the Liberty Gardens of World War I and Victory Gardens of World War II.
These gardens historically helped reduce the demand on public food supplies, allowing more resources to be sent to troops overseas. The current garden features a variety of vegetables and is part of the city's Historical Tour Program, which educates students about historical domestic life and the significance of these gardens in fostering community and self-reliance.
