What's Happening?
Transgrid and Lumea are installing mobile signal boosters on electricity transmission towers along the HumeLink project route in regional New South Wales. The HumeLink project, a 500kV transmission line
connecting Wagga Wagga, Bannaby, and Maragle, is one of the state's largest energy infrastructure projects. The installation of mobile boosters aims to improve connectivity for residents, businesses, motorists, tourists, and emergency services by addressing longstanding mobile reception blackspots. Early testing at initial sites has shown mobile download speeds of around 30Mbps, providing reliable connectivity in previously underserved areas.
Why It's Important?
The installation of mobile signal boosters on transmission towers represents a significant step in improving telecommunications infrastructure in regional areas. By enhancing mobile connectivity, Transgrid and Lumea are addressing critical communication needs for various stakeholders, including emergency services and local communities. This initiative not only improves quality of life for residents but also supports economic activities and safety in remote areas. The project underscores the importance of integrating telecommunications solutions into existing infrastructure to maximize utility and reach.
