What's Happening?
Co-op has announced the appointment of Andy Wilmot MBE as its new group supply chain and logistics director. Wilmot will join the convenience retailer in April, succeeding Derek Furnival, who is retiring after 30 years with the company. Wilmot brings
extensive experience from his previous role at A.F. Blakemore & Son, where he served as group logistics and supply chain director. He has also worked with DHL Supply Chain. Wilmot expressed enthusiasm about joining Co-op, highlighting the complexity and importance of retail supply chains, especially for Co-op's extensive network of 8,000 stores. Co-op's group managing director, Matt Hood, emphasized the strategic importance of strengthening their supply and logistics operations as part of their broader retail strategy.
Why It's Important?
The appointment of Andy Wilmot is significant for Co-op as it seeks to enhance its supply chain and logistics capabilities. With the retail sector facing increasing challenges, including supply chain disruptions and evolving consumer demands, having a robust logistics strategy is crucial. Wilmot's experience is expected to bring a fresh perspective and drive improvements in efficiency and service delivery. This move aligns with Co-op's strategy to strengthen its retail buying group and improve its competitive position in the market. The transition also marks a significant change in leadership, as the company bids farewell to Derek Furnival, whose long tenure has been instrumental in shaping Co-op's logistics operations.
