What's Happening?
Aker BP and Armada have announced the deployment of a modular offshore data center on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. This initiative aims to enable real-time processing of drilling and operational data directly at the rig site. The data center, known
as the Galleon, is designed to operate in offshore conditions, providing local compute capabilities where connectivity to onshore systems and cloud infrastructure is limited. This deployment is intended to reduce delays in data analysis and improve decision-making during critical operations by moving compute capacity offshore. The system will support the use of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics, allowing operators to run predictive models locally.
