What's Happening?
bp has signed three production sharing contracts (PSCs) in Indonesia, expanding its exploration portfolio near the Tangguh LNG operations in Papua Barat and adding a new block in East Java. The agreements cover the Bintuni and Drawa blocks near Tangguh LNG and the Barong
block in East Java. These contracts were signed during the Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention & Exhibition 2026, as part of Indonesia's second 2025 petroleum bidding round.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of bp's exploration portfolio in Indonesia underscores the company's strategic focus on enhancing its LNG-linked upstream operations in Southeast Asia. The proximity of the new blocks to existing Tangguh LNG infrastructure presents opportunities for shorter-cycle development, potentially accelerating production timelines. This move aligns with bp's broader strategy to invest in energy security and economic growth in Indonesia, a key market for the company's LNG operations. The new PSCs are likely to strengthen bp's competitive position in the region and support its long-term growth objectives.
