What's Happening?
The Walt Disney Studios has introduced 'Infinity Vision,' a new certification for premium large format (PLF) theaters, aimed at enhancing the cinematic experience. This initiative, launched in collaboration with global theatrical exhibition partners,
sets rigorous technical standards for theaters, including large screens, laser projection, and premium audio formats. 'Infinity Vision' aims to help audiences identify theaters that offer the most immersive viewing experiences. The certification will debut with the re-release of 'Avengers: Endgame' in September, followed by 'Avengers: Doomsday' in December.
Why It's Important?
'Infinity Vision' represents Disney's commitment to the theatrical experience, reinforcing the value of cinema in an era increasingly dominated by streaming services. By setting a high standard for theater presentation, Disney aims to attract audiences back to cinemas, potentially boosting box office revenues. This move could influence other studios to adopt similar standards, thereby elevating the overall quality of theatrical presentations. The initiative also highlights the ongoing competition between traditional cinema and home viewing, with Disney positioning itself as a leader in premium moviegoing experiences.
