Why It's Important?
The apprenticeship program by British Engines is crucial for addressing the skills gap in the engineering sector. By offering structured learning and hands-on experience, the program helps futureproof critical skills, drive productivity, and support innovation. It also provides a pathway for young people to enter the engineering field without the financial burden of higher education. This initiative not only benefits the company by developing a skilled workforce but also contributes to the broader economy by ensuring a steady supply of qualified engineers. The program's success is evident as all apprentices from the most recent cohort were offered permanent roles, highlighting the company's commitment to retaining and developing talent.
What's Next?
Applications for the 2026 apprenticeship program are now open, with a deadline of January 18th. British Engines expects high interest, similar to the previous year when they received a record 490 applications.
