What's Happening?
Columbia College's Fashion Association recently held its second annual 'Project Styling' competition, inspired by the popular TV series 'Project Runway'. The event, organized by Rachel Jimenez Penca and Galaxy Wolf, aimed to highlight the often-overlooked
field of fashion styling. This year's theme was '90s Revival', with five contestants presenting their unique interpretations of 90s fashion. The competition was judged by industry professionals, including Brandon Frein, Paige Berndt, and Josh Ray. Riley McGuire, a junior fine arts major, won the competition with a look inspired by 90s grunge subculture. The event provided a platform for students to gain hands-on experience and connect with industry professionals.
Why It's Important?
The 'Project Styling' competition at Columbia College underscores the importance of practical experience in the fashion industry, particularly in the niche field of styling. By providing a platform for students to showcase their creativity and connect with industry professionals, the event helps bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application. This initiative not only highlights the diverse opportunities within the fashion ecosystem but also encourages students to explore and innovate within their chosen fields. The focus on 90s fashion revival reflects current trends and offers insights into how past styles influence contemporary fashion.
