What's Happening?
Consumer Reports has released its findings on mosquito repellents, ranking Badger Anti-Bug Shake & Spray as the least effective among 57 products tested. Despite its appeal as a natural option with 95% organic ingredients, the product scored only 4 out
of 100 points. The testing focused on efficacy, cost, and formulation, revealing that the product failed to protect against mosquitoes and ticks, earning just 1 out of 5 on the protection scale. In contrast, Repel's Plant-Based Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent, which does not contain DEET, scored 90 out of 100, demonstrating high effectiveness in repelling mosquitoes.
Why It's Important?
The findings are significant for consumers seeking effective mosquito repellents, especially those preferring natural ingredients. The low score of Badger Anti-Bug Shake & Spray highlights the potential gap between consumer expectations and product performance. This could influence purchasing decisions, particularly for families with young children who may be sensitive to chemical repellents like DEET. The report underscores the importance of efficacy in product selection, as ineffective repellents can lead to increased exposure to mosquito-borne diseases, impacting public health.
