What's Happening?
Online Home Shop Limited (OHS) has opened a new 327,000 square foot fulfilment centre in Trafford Park, Manchester, to support its rapid growth and enhance operational capacity. The new facility is expected to enable OHS to ship six million orders this
year, creating over 100 new jobs and increasing the workforce from 200 to over 300 employees. The family-owned company has experienced significant growth, with a 28% increase in gross sales last year, driven by its expanding customer base and repeat purchases. OHS has diversified its product offerings beyond home textiles to include garden, furniture, soft furnishings, and clothing.
Why It's Important?
The expansion of OHS's fulfilment capabilities is a testament to the resilience and adaptability of the discount homeware sector amidst challenging retail conditions. As consumers continue to invest in home improvements at lower price points, companies like OHS are well-positioned to capitalize on this trend. The new fulfilment centre not only supports OHS's growth strategy but also contributes to local economic development by creating job opportunities. This move reflects broader trends in the ecommerce industry, where efficient logistics and distribution are critical to meeting increasing consumer demand and maintaining competitive advantage.
