What's Happening?
The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) has announced that its Introduction to Battery Manufacturing training course has received formal approval from EAL, a specialist awarding body for engineering and manufacturing qualifications. Launched in March 2024, the course offers a comprehensive introduction to battery manufacturing, providing participants with insights into battery technology development and access to UKBIC's Giga scale manufacturing facility. The course is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of battery production processes and serves as a precursor to more advanced training at UKBIC. The approval by EAL underscores the course's value and the confidence it instills in participants, as it is delivered
by specialists with hands-on experience in a full-scale manufacturing environment.
Why It's Important?
The approval of UKBIC's course by EAL is significant for the UK's rapidly expanding battery industry. It strengthens the skills pipeline necessary to support the sector's growth, making the UK an attractive place for innovation and investment. The course provides participants with unique hands-on experience, typically only available to employees of commercial gigafactories, thus enhancing their practical skills and employability. This initiative aligns with the Battery Innovation Programme's mission to develop national capabilities and ensure the availability of high-quality skills in the industry.
What's Next?
UKBIC plans to continue offering the Introduction to Battery Manufacturing course with upcoming sessions scheduled for March and April 2026. The organization will also release additional dates soon. Beyond this course, UKBIC offers a range of specialized training programs tailored to the needs of individual organizations, ensuring that learning is directly applicable to real-world processes. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to maintain the UK's competitive edge in the global battery market by fostering a skilled workforce.
