What's Happening?
The PGA Tour is set to return to the Riviera Country Club for the Genesis Invitational from February 19-22, 2026. This marks the 100-year anniversary of the event, which was relocated to Torrey Pines last year due to wildfires in Pacific Palisades. The tournament features an elevated purse of $20 million, with $4 million awarded to the winner. The event is one of eight signature events in 2026, offering 700 FedEx Cup points. Notably, the tournament will include a 36-hole cut, a feature of only three signature events this year. The field includes 27 of the top 30 players in the Official World Golf Ranking, with notable absences including Tiger Woods and Justin Thomas due to back surgeries.
Why It's Important?
The return of the Genesis Invitational to Riviera Country
Club is significant for the PGA Tour, as it reestablishes a historic venue in the tour's schedule. The elevated purse and competitive field underscore the event's prestige and its role in shaping the FedEx Cup standings. The tournament also highlights the resilience of the local community and the golf industry in recovering from natural disasters. Additionally, the event's inclusion of a 36-hole cut adds a layer of competitiveness, attracting top players and increasing viewer engagement.
What's Next?
